Picking the right email auto-responder is a very important decision for the internet marketer. We are going to help you out by using our many years of experience of being a traffic provider to thousands of internet marketing clients and a custom sales funnel builder for many hundreds of internet marketing clients.

Before we get started, let me explain what an email auto-responder does for an internet marketer. An email auto-responder is a very valuable tool for the internet marketer to communicate with their prospects and customers. It’s primarily used to integrate with an opt in form to aid in the collection of leads (subscribers) when building an email marketing list. Once the email marketing list subscriber (prospect) is in your auto-responder, the auto-responder can send out either automatic follow-up emails or one time broadcast emails to market these subscribers on your marketing list. We find that Aweber and Get Response are two great auto-responder choices for our clients when they start their internet marketing businesses.

Some of the features you will find in an auto-responder

  • Integrates with your squeeze page software to aid in lead collection.
  • Stores various marketing and buyers lists of emails.
  • Gives templates to build more graphical emails for your subscribers.
  • Gives you key insight into the reading habits of your subscribers.
  • Provides auto-response so that emails are sent immediately upon someone doing something (like joining your list).
  • List automation can also be applied to help reduce duplicate emails and help you segment your leads from buyers, etc.
  • Social Media integration

There are many different auto-responder companies besides Aweber and Get Response. Some of those companies that would have competing products would be Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Campaigner, Active Campaign, Infusionsoft and many more. Since our primary focus for many of our readers are internet marketing, we would recommend either Aweber or Get Response to them.

Pricing Chart

Aweber, get response

Get Response wins out on pricing if you have under 1,000 subscribers, however if you are an internet marketer, you plan on having a lot more subscribers then 1,000. So as far as pricing goes we have to recommend Aweber for 1,000 to 25,000 subscribers, which is very typical among internet marketers.

Key Features

Both Aweber and Get Response are pretty similar when it comes to auto-responder basic features. You will find that both will meet the needs of the typical internet marketer running an on-line business.

  • Sending Unlimited Emails
  • Automation
  • Segmenting
  • Analytics
  • Templates
  • Opt in forms
  • Integration
  • Importing in Leads
  • Forms
  • Slit Testing
  • Scheduling

Key Differences

Get Response has a few new additions to their product. Webinars is a new feature recently added to Get Response if you are at the $49 level or higher, where you can record a webinar that is up to 2 hours and play it back for your subscribers.

Get Response’s landing page creator is stronger than Aweber’s, but we really feel that a 3rd part software is better suited for landing page creation then using auto-responder software.

Get Response is a bit stronger when it comes to split testing. It allows you to test up to 5 variants compared to Aweber only allowing 4.

Both Aweber and Get Response have a new feature in Beta Testing where you can set conditions and actions to trigger specific events based on customer behavior. Aweber calls it Campaigns and Get Response call it Marketing Automation. I think it’s too early to tell which system does a better job with using customer behavior to trigger events.

Aweber templates are more attractive than the Getresponse templates.

Aweber also has better built in integration with outside vendors.

Despite Get Response’s support being available 24/7  compared to Aweber’s 12 hours daily during the week and 8 hours daily on weekends, Aweber wins. Aweber’s support techs are stronger and it’s much easier to get your issue resolved with Aweber than Get Response.

Our Recommendation

We feel that Aweber is a bit stronger in meeting the needs of many of our clients and a bit easier for our clients to learn. It’s extremely important for our clients to feel comfortable with their new software. If it hard for them to use, they won’t use it. Aweber also has a better price point for the average internet marketing while building their marketing list to 1,000 – 25,000 subscribers. 85% of the time we recommend Aweber to our clients when it’s time for them to purchase a commercial auto-responder. Now don’t get me wrong, Get Response is a great product and the majority of our clients could be using Get Response to get the job done. We just prefer Aweber for our typical client.
